rICK BRAGG
Rick Bragg was born on July 26, 1956 in Piedmont, Alabama. His parents were Charles Bragg and Margaret Bragg. To support his family, he picked cotton, cleaned house and did the laundry. He grew up on Opossum Trot Road near Jacksonville. He went to Jacksonville High School and graduated in 1977. He attended Jacksonville State University for six months. Then he was hired as a reporter for the Anniston Star in 1980. He also worked as a reporter for the Birmingham News from 1986-1989. He was awarded at Harvard University's Nieman Award in 1992 which gave him a tuition free career for writers. In 1996 he won the Pulitzer Prize for his cover of the Oklahoma bombing. He married Lisa Creel, but then divorced in the 1980s. Bragg writes non-fiction books about his family in Alabama. In 2005 he got remarried to Diane Wells. He worked for the New York times, but resigned in 2003. He now lives in Tuscaloosa, AL as a professor of writing at the University of Alabama.
